Reserva Ecologica Yanapana is a 50 hectare (125 acre) rainforest preserve in the Choco Bioregion of Northwest Ecuador at  0 14' 30" N,  78 46' 43" W Located on the west slope of the Andes at an elevation of 800 to 900 meters (1500 to 1800 feet), it is one of the few remaining protected areas of primary forest in this part of the country.  It is bordered on the North by the swift and muddy Rio Guayallabamba, and is adjoined by another protected area, the Reserva Rio Guaycuyacu.  The Rio Guaycuyacu, a clear pristine mountain stream, flows through the preserve.  The primary forest presents opportunities for birdwatching and other wildlife viewing.  The Rio Guaycuyacu is clear and cool, providing welcome relief from the mid-day heat.  The reserve is 32 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of Mindo, and a four hour bus ride from Quito.    It is our intention to preserve the land from deforestation, and to provide protected habitat for the numerous species of birds and other wildlife.  For more information e-mail us at yanapana@gmail.com
